The Horizons Ministry was created especially for adults with special needs.  This group exists as a ministry to these adults as most of them are transported to and from each week by a team of amazing adult volunteers.  Through, interactive biblical lessons each week and occasional retreats and events, these adults are leaning the truths of scripture and applying them right where they are in life.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Horizons Ministry is made successful by amazing volunteers who give their time and energy to impact the lives of adults with special needs.  Not only with our Horizons members be blessed by your presence, you will be blessed beyond belief!  This ministry has been at Heritage since 2001 and it is because of amazing volunteers.  Each Sunday, we need 2 Drivers, 1 Teacher and 2 Room Assistants.  Listed below are opportunities to help.  If you have any questions, please contact Samantha Stephenson at 334.315.8866 or 334.731.3735.

Room Assistant

Room Assistants help set up coffee and snacks, escort the Horizons members to the library, help in picking out movies or music in the library, help the teacher by generating conversation during the lesson, straightening up the room and just generally being there in case of problems so the teacher can continue to teach.

We currently need 2 volunteers each for the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the month

Teacher

Our Teachers teach a 20-30 minute lesson using materials provided that are age and educationally appropriate.  These lessons include games and other interactive activities that provide positive re-enforcement for the lesson.  We have a passion for sharing God's Word with the Horizons members.

We currently need 1 teacher on the 3rd Sunday of the month

Driver

Our Drivers use a special handicapped accessible mini bus provided by Heritage Baptist Church.  Drivers leave the church at 8am each Sunday to make the 3 stop route and then make the same route after the morning worship service ends around 11:30am. All drivers need to have completed a safety course offered through Heritage.  For questions about the safety course, please contact Gene Deuschle at 334.279.9976.

We currently need 1 driver on the 4th Sunday of the month
